ANDHALA DALTAY

Precisely 45 years ago, on August 13, 1963, noted folk artiste Shahir Sable staged this farcical play highlighting the sorry plight of the Marathi speaking residents of Mumbai. The lore has it that the play was so impactful that it led to the formation of the Shivsena, a political party safeguarding the rights of the native Marathi populace. Incorporating folk elements like gan, gavlan, batawani and powada, this musical play bolsters the pride of the Marathi manoos while making him think hard about his lost self-esteem. This socio-political play is the fourth offering from producer Sunil Barve's revivals of old and lesser known classics.

CHALA VEL KADHUYA

This social play focuses on today's familial issues and problems vis--vis children's upbringing. The play attempts to counsel the parents and children and offer both remedial measures to ease the tension between them and re-establish a two-way communication. In today's nuclear families, the sole responsibility of bringing up children rests on the parents. Problem arises when the parents are unable to devote enough time to their children. Children are unable to open up to the parents and are unable to discuss their problem with them. Instead they begin confiding in their friends and often fall into bad company which may lead them to various addictions. On the other hand, over-protection of children leads to complexities of another kind. A must-watch for today's parents and their children.
